M-12 Manual Screen Printer

M-12 Manual Screen Printer

Precision Screen Printing with Fast Setup and Repeatable Results

The M-12 is the next generation of HMI's manual precision screen printing platform, replacing the MSP-088 and incorporating numerous enhancements that improve setup speed, alignment accuracy, repeatability, and operator convenience. Designed for research and development, process development, educational environments, and low-volume manufacturing, the M-12 combines production-style tooling and alignment capabilities with a simple, hands-on operating platform.

Recent enhancements include a lockable screen frame holder with adjustable height and leveling, precision micrometer X, Y, and rotational adjustments, and cross-roller bearing guided positioning. These improvements significantly reduce setup time while improving alignment accuracy and process consistency. Once a screen is leveled and locked in place, screens can be exchanged without requiring re-leveling.

The M-12 utilizes the same toolplate and screen frame platform as the HMI MSP-485 semi-automatic precision screen printer, allowing processes developed in the laboratory to be transferred directly into production using the same tooling, screens, and setup parameters. The result is production-oriented precision, repeatable setup, and a clear path from process development to manufacturing.

A Versatile Platform for Process Development

The M-12 is an inexpensive yet highly capable precision screen printer designed for process development, operator training, product qualification, and low-volume manufacturing. Featuring many of the same frame mounting, print alignment, and substrate tooling elements found on production equipment, the M-12 provides hands-on experience with the critical parameters of precision screen printing while delivering highly repeatable results.

Operators can develop and refine essential process variables including snap-off adjustment, screen alignment in the X, Y, and rotational axes, vacuum substrate hold-down, and substrate registration. These skills and setup techniques can be directly scaled to larger production systems, making the M-12 an effective bridge between laboratory development and manufacturing.

Develop on the M-12. Scale on the MSP-485.

A key advantage of the M-12 is its compatibility with the HMI MSP-485 semi-automatic precision screen printer. The M-12 utilizes the same toolplate and screen frame platform, allowing processes developed in the laboratory to be transferred directly into production using the same tooling, screens, and setup parameters. This reduces development time, minimizes process risk, and simplifies production scale-up.

    Hands-On Process Control

The manually operated squeegee provides a true hands-on printing experience. Operators can quickly adjust and observe the effects of squeegee speed, pressure, angle of attack, and edge effects, making the M-12 an exceptional training, development, and process optimization platform.

Enhanced for Faster Setup and Greater Repeatability

Recent design enhancements have significantly improved usability, repeatability, and operator convenience. The redesigned screen frame holder allows precise screen height and leveling adjustments to be set and locked in place. Once established, screens can be removed and replaced without requiring re-leveling, reducing setup time, minimizing operator variability, and improving process consistency.

The X and Y fine adjustment mechanisms have been redesigned to utilize precision cross-roller bearings, providing smoother movement, greater accuracy, and improved long-term repeatability. Rotational alignment has also been upgraded from a vernier-style adjustment to a precision micrometer mechanism for more accurate screen positioning.

Additional improvements include increased screen height clearance for printing thicker substrates, a vacuum on/off toggle switch for substrate hold-down control (vacuum pump optional), and a positive locking mechanism that securely holds the screen in the raised position during setup, inspection, and cleaning operations.

    Designed for Everyday Use

To improve operator convenience and workplace cleanliness, a magnetic squeegee holder has been incorporated above the rear of the screen frame assembly. When printing is complete, the squeegee can be stored on the holder, allowing excess paste to drip back onto the rear of the screen mesh rather than onto the workbench or surrounding work area.

The baseplate now includes through-bolt mounting holes for secure attachment to a workbench, providing increased stability in laboratory and production environments.

The M-12 delivers production-oriented precision, repeatable setup, and direct scalability to production equipment—all in an affordable bench-top platform. It is an ideal solution for process development, operator training, product qualification, and low-volume precision printing applications.
